1: Introduction To Drawing,
The 4 Major Tools
In this first lesson Jessica simplifies the understanding of the foundations of drawing into its most simplistic form. “If you can write your name, you can draw” is the premise for this important step. By recognizing that when you were learning to draw, you were training your hand mand mind to work together. By connecting that very obvious fact with the practice of drawing, the way becomes clear and manageable. Students are given a series of lines, angles and abstract shapes to duplicate, while discussing the use of measuring, helper lines and plumb lines. After that a few steps in understanding the use of negative space. Finally, a last step in the first lesson discusses using all those newly discovered tools to put into practical use.

2: Learn To Draw, Sight-Size Method
In the second lesson, Jessica demonstrates a process of drawing called ‘sight-size”. In this video, this common technique is demonstrated by drawing an owl exactly the same size as the original in the workbook. Applying the techniques studied in the first lesson, students will develop a deeper understanding for the use of plumb lines, helper lines, negative space and measuring.

3: Learn To Draw, Comparative Method
The third lesson looks deeper into likely the most often used drawing technique called the “comparative method”. In this process students learn how to take an image and adjust the size either larger or smaller as desired. Applying all the foundational drawing techniques previously discussed, students gain a firm grasp on further honing those important skills.

4: Drawing From Life
Drawing from life is a very important step for anyone looking to truly develop their serious art studies. All other lessons will hinge on your ability to see accurately from life. In this fourth lesson, Jessica draws objects from life, demonstrating how to use the aforementioned skills into developing a two-dimensional drawing from a three-dimensional object. Among the items drawn in the video Jessica demonstrates drawing an egg, a rose, small cubes, and a wooden hand, all utilizing the proper drawing techniques.

5: Drawing In Perspective, An Introduction
In the fifth video of the drawing module, Daniel Hill Riedel takes the student outdoors to demonstrate the practical observations of perspective and its application to our drawing. In the studio he demonstrates those methods in a comprehensive study. Several exercises are given to the student to assist in honing the students understanding of the how and why of perspective drawing.

6: Bonus Lesson–Introduction To Pen & Ink
The sixth lesson in our drawing course module introduces students to skill of pen & ink drawing. Daniel Hill Riedel discusses papers, pen nibs and goes into the detail of understanding line vocabularies. The student learns how to start the drawing and gradually build the image from light to dark using different types of line lengths, line thicknesses, line movements and cross-hatching styles––moving all the way to the finished drawing. This lesson is also added to the watercolor course to understand the use of ink along with watercolor to achieve the Victorian Watercolor style of drawing/painting/illustrating.
