1: Portraiture––The Foundation
The first 4 weeks of this course is in the execution of one painting. Students are encouraged to follow along closely as we navigate painting the portrait together, step0by-step. The first session is all about laying down the foundation and capturing a likeness. The drawing is important, but emphasis is placed on understanding the bone structure and the planes of the face.

2: Painting The Portrait––
    Skin Tones &
Blocking In The Masses
In the second video lesson of the portrait module, Jessica demonstrates blocking in the masses of the facial structure. Capturing the accurate values is essential to getting a likeness. After the drawing is in place from the first session, the second one focuses directly on obtaining correct values and color tones. Jessica gives a clear demonstrate on mixing different skin tones and more insight into simple recipes that you can branch off of.

3: Painting The Portrait––
Painting The Eyes & The Mouth
In this third lesson, Jessica paints in the eyes, nose and mouth to a greater finish. Working on really developing the character and personality is where we tune in at this point, really that’s from the beginning, but as we round the corner to the finish, we double check that none of the sparkle got lost and/or ensure that it is there.

4: Painting The Portrait––
    Finishing The Painting
In this final installment of this painting, Jessica gives the painting a final overview and carefully checks the drawing, character and gives examples of how to pull out more of the finishing touches on a portrait. Concentration is removed from the edges, by softening what needs to be lost, the background is made to reflect atmosphere. A little talk on painting clothes is given.

5: Painting The Portrait––
    Foundations Review
In this final lesson in painting the portrait, Jessica gives a demonstration on laying in the foundation of the portrait. Since the painting is a child, instruction is given on painting children. The primary focus of this video is to emphasize the importance of values in a portrait. You can have an accurate drawing, but if the values are off, it can throw off the likeness.
